I obtained my PhD in Computer Science in May 2003 from the University of Antwerp, and spent a FWO postdoc for 3 years at the same university. In 2006 I joined the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) as an Assistant Professor, where I stayed for 6 years. In 2012 I joined the Universite libre de Bruxelles (ULB) as an Associate Professor holding the chair on Business Intelligence. In February 2016 I returned to my first university and became Full Professor in the department of Mathematics and Computer Science of the Universiteit Antwerpen (UA).
My research interests are Data Mining and Machine Learning. In 2014 I was one of the program chairs of the ECML/PKDD conference, and in 2016 I am PC co-chair of Discovery Science. Since 2015 I am area editor of the Data Mining journal.
