Database Summarization

Current data mining techniques tend to produce a wealth of potentially interesting patterns, usually in quantities too large for a single user to manage or understand. In our research we aim to find ways of globally summarizing a database by using the local patterns occurring within it. Employing state of the art data mining techniques, the goal is to retrieve a small, concise subset of all patterns, that characterize the whole database as well as possible.

This research is funded by a PhD grant of the Agency for Innovation through Science and Technology in Flanders (IWT Vlaanderen).
